Sayeed Muhammad: At least 14 people lost their lives in lightning strikes across the country yesterday, with the highest four npeople dying in Narayangan alone. Of the rest, two were killed in Moulvibazar, Rajshahi, Pabna and Jamalpur each, while one in Sunamganj and Habigan apiece. In Narayanganj, three people died in Rupgan upazila. The deceased are Farhad Hossain, 15, Rafiqul Islam, 34, and Hashem Mollah, 40. Farmer Obaidul, aged 32, was killed while working on a paddy field in Sonargaon upazila of the district. His colleague Sadeque, 35, was injured in the thunderbolt that struck them. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Tamij Uddin died in Kamalganj upazila, while Ahay Gowal, 27, in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar. Four others were also injured in the lightning strike in Sreemangal. A youth named Bakul Mia died in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur, where pentagenarian Abdur Razzak was wounded. A farmer, identified as Habibur Rahman, was killed in Sharishabari upazila while harvesting rice. In Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila, 45-year-old farmer Babul Mia died, while another farmer named Ali Mukai, 55, was killed in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna. Meantime, Najim Hossain, 30, died in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila, whereas 38-year-old Shamsul Haq lost his life in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj. In the Haor area of Sunamganj, 42-year-old Md Yahiya died, with Abdullah Mia, aged 40, was injured. On Sunday, at least 19 died in thunderbolt strikes in parts of the country.
