Bangladesh is a cricket crazy nation and most of the people of our country are cricket fanatics, to some extent. A lot of us have the names of all the players of the Bangladesh national men’s cricket team memorized, but how many of the women’s cricket team player can we actually name? While all the matches that Shakib, Tamim, Mashrafe, and their gang play are broadcasted on Television no matter how small the match is, the women’s cricket team is not even getting half the highlight.
How many of us have heard of Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam? Not many, I suppose. Well, let me tell you a bit about them. Jahanara Alam is the current captain of the Bangladesh national women’s cricket team. She is a medium-fast bowler, a right handed batsman, and she was also member of the team that won a silver medal after playing the historic match against the China national women’s cricket team at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou,China. Salma Khatun, on the other hand, was on the top of the table for the ICC T20 all rounder rankings in 2015 with 291 rating points, and was also ranked as the number one T20 bowler in ICC player rankings. I bet a lot of you did not even know that we had such gems in our women’s cricket team.
The biggest support of the Bangladesh men’s cricket team is the people of this nation who attend the matches, and scream with joy every time they score a six. However, the women’s cricket team barely gets the love that they very well deserve. They have probably trained just as hard as the men’s team, and it is time that we, as avid cricket fans, show some appreciation and respect towards them.
