Desk Report: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon declared the capital’s Dhanmondi area free from waste, after inaugurating five Secondary Transfer Stations (STS) for dumping waste beside Kalabagan playground in the city, reports Daily Star.
The mayor said, “With the introduction of the STS, no waste or container carrying waste will be seen in the entire Dhanmondi and Kalabagan area.”
Speaking on the occasion, local lawmaker Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh thanked the DSCC mayor for introducing the modern waste management system, and requested him to take necessary measures for removing waste twice a day.
Welcoming the initiative, eminent columnist Syed Abul Maksud said, “The newly-constructed environment-friendly STS would play a vital role in modernising the city’s waste management system.”
“It is impossible for the city corporation alone to make the city free from waste. The city dwellers should come forward to make the endeavour a success,” he opined. Among others, DSCC’s Chief Executive Officer Khan Mohammad Billal and local Awami League leaders and activists were present on the occasion.
