The government has no plan to increase the existing age limit for entry into public services to 35 years at this moment, according to the response of Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam to a question raised by an independent MP in the ongoing parliamentary session. Public Administration state minister Ismat Ara Sadique represented the minister’s answers to the questions of the MPs as he was present in the parliament yesterday.
In the minister’s response, the decision of not changing the criterion was explained as there is no session jams in the educational institutes, which gives six-seven years time to find a government job. It was also mentioned that the additional time it takes to complete the procedure are not counted while checking the eligibility of the candidate. According to the minister, if the age limit for entry is increased it may create over competition, given the job tenure had been already raised to 59 from the previous 57, reducing the vacancies. An increase in the age limit for entry may lead to more frustration among youths of less than thirty years of age, the minister suggested.
