Kabir Humayun: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said newspaper is the mirror of the society.
The Prime Minister said this while distributing assistance among 113 journalists from Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust at Prime Minister Office (PMO) in Dhaka yesterday, reports Daily Sun.
“We have freed newspaper so that journalists can work independently,” said Hasina, adding, “Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had relation with newspaper and worked for the newspaper. In this case, I am also member of newspaper.”
“I am working very coordially for the welfare of Bangladesh people. My father always worked for changing life of countrymen,” she said.
“I always read newspaper with tea early in the morning. Many journalists take snap and send news from very remote area. I have desired to do something for them,” she said.
She mentioned that Bangabandhu gave government job and allowance to many journalists after independence as journalists were in bad condition.
“For the poor and ill-fated journalists, I approved Journalist Welfare Fund where has Tk 14 crore fund and I will now donate more tk 20 crore for the fund,” she said.
We are building flats which journalists can buy as per the installment.
