Several groups of cyber-frauds are active in harassing & embezzling money from the general people. Their strategies range from fake customer services to forceful or influential conman-ship. IT is a new sector that many are still familiarizing with. Thus, most have no idea about such cyber-crimes. Therefore, the police has taken pro-active initiatives in order to aware as many IT user as possible, through social media.
As part of the campaign, they are also conducting missions to catch the culprits & break their circles as well. Over 12 cyber-frauds were arrested in past 3 months.
An expert cyber-conman group of 8, was captured from Vanga Thana area of Faridpur district, on 16 July. Another cyber-fraud Ahsan Habib Peyar was captured by DMP CTC division. For opening a fake online-channel called AHP. That showed videos of rare diseases & embezzling money out of many people using the fear. RAB caught another of big circle of pre-paid master-card frauds, in August.
DMP Additional Commissioner & Counter Terrorism Unit Chief Monirul Islam talked about the situation, if anyone calls demanding ransom using fear, blackmail or orchestrating embezzlement. He suggested to talk with them & argue about the price. These new cyber-criminals are expert technicians, but not real criminals. If they realize you are not getting scared, they will not contact you the second time.
He also added, it is very hard to capture such criminals. Recovering any embezzled money is far harder. Only personal awareness & little courage can repel them off from anyone.
