 The police have been assaulted after two fishermen were detained for netting fish defying 22-day ban, reports Banglaesh Pratidin. The detained two fishermen were also snatched from the police. The incident took place at 12:30am on Friday at Meghna River adjacent to Hijla in Barishal. The injured police personnel were identified as Monirul Islam and Abu Jafar.
Of them, Monirul was taken to Hijla Upaqzila Health Complex in critical condition. According to the police, the fishermen were netting fish defying 22-day ban at Meghna River.The police chased the fishermen and nabbed two of them.
On information, a team of fishermen launched an attack on the police and took away the detainees.
Belal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Hijla station of River Police said that a drive was conducted headed by the UNO and Fisheries Office to enforce the ban.
