After serving just five months in jail, the suspected mastermind of the attack on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila has been released on bail. Suspect is the suspended chairman of the Haripur Union Parishad named Dewan Atiqur Rahan Ankhi. He was released on Thursday afternoon upon a High Court order, confirmed Mahbubur Rahman, District Judge’s Court Police Inspector. According to him, the bail orders arrived at Brahmanbaria court on Thursday and then it was redirected to the district jail. An unruly mob along with sharp weapons went into berserk and resulted demolishment of several Hindu temples and nearly 100 houses on October 30, 2016. The mob was followed by a Facebook post demeaning the Holy Kaaba – reports UNB.Ankhi was arrested from Bhatara area in capital Dhaka on January 5, 2017 and was taken for remand for several times. He was later suspended from the post of chairman of Haripur Union Parishad later on January 15.
