Myanmar has been renovating the barbed-wire fences on Tambru canal along Bangladesh border, reports banglanews24.com.
The workers were seen installing many pylons to erect barbed-wire fences on the canal along Tambru border, which could cause water-logging during the next monsoon season.
Rohingyas who are staying at a makeshift camp located on no man’s land feared flash floods which could wash away their settlements.
During visit to border areas, after national and international media reports headlined ‘Myanmar building bridge near Bangladesh border’, Banglanews correspondent saw nine pillars have been built on the cannel to renovate the barbed-wire fence.
The work of building more pillars is going on in full swing which could cause a flashflood nearby area next monsoon.
Abul Kashem, Rohingya who lives in Konarpara area, said at night, Myanmar forces fire shots, hurl bricks, sticks, bottles on us so that we leave the zero point in fear. Failing to the attempts, they are now applying a new trick to remove Rohingyas from the no man’s land through the construction of pillars on cannel.
Dil Mohammad, Rohingya leader on Ghumdhum Konarpara no man’s land, told Banglanews that it is the new trap to wipe out nearby Rohingya. The Myanmar authorities are trying cause of waterlogging by disrupting water flow erecting the barbed-wire fence on concrete pillars.
Ghumdhum Union Parishad Chairman Md Jahangir Aziz told Banglanews that Because of the establishment, Rohingya settlements on no man’s land and Tambru area of Ghumdhum that cause of flashfloods. These activities are creating panic among the 700,000 Rohingya refugees who have fled Myanmar since August last year.
Lt Colonel Kazi Manzurul Islam, commander of Cox’s Bazar-34 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), said, “No bridge or concrete establishment is being built on Myanmar part on Tambru border.
