“Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan requires a specific action plan for media professional”

Shahnaz Begum of DOT : The seminar titled “Mujib Climate Change Prosperity Plan – Role of Media” seminar was held today at the National Institute of Mass Communication Ministry of Information & Broadcast (NIMC) in Dhaka.
During this seminar Mirza Shoukat Ali, Director of the Department of Environment, presented the keynote speech.
He mentioned that the vision and guidance on the environment and climate of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have been reflected in this plan. In honor of Mujib Year, the plan has been named “Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan.”
Sufi Zakir Hossen, the Additional Director-General of the Institute, chaired the seminar. He stated that due to government efforts to combat climate change, necessary measures are being taken to address the created vulnerabilities.
He emphasized that climate change adaptation is crucial for Bangladesh to survive. He further mentioned that despite numerous challenges, the government has become a global role model in climate change initiatives.
In his welcoming speech, A. K. M. Azizul Haq, the Director of the National Media Institute (administration and development) stated that the path to implementing climate change adaptation needs to be shown to overcome the risks.
Malik Fida A. Khan, a member of the National River Conservation Commission stated during the seminar that aligning the Bay of Bengal plan, SDGs, and Smart Bangladesh Plan with the climate issue will make the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan implementation easier.
In the seminar, the Executive President of the South Asian Climate Change Journalist Forum, Keramat Ullah Biplab said that a specific action plan is needed for media professionals to play a role in creating public awareness on the path to implementing this plan.
Other speakers at the seminar included Assaduzzaman Samrat, Secretary-General of the South Asian Climate Change Journalist Forum, M. Nazrul Islam, Director of the National Media Institute and Dr. M. Maruf Nawaz.
At the seminar Print and electronic media professionals and members from different levels of the National Media Institute were present.
