DOT Desk: Nazim Uddin Ahmed, a freedom fighter and the lawmaker representing the Mymensingh-3 (Gouripur) constituency, has vowed to commit suicide by self-poisoning if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) returns to power, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The Awami League MP was addressing a rally yesterday evening in the Master Bari area of Bhutiyarkona village in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh, where he was campaigning for his party in the upcoming parliamentary election.
The freedom fighter said: “The BNP martyred 3 million people and violated the honour of 200,000 women. If they come back to power, I, as a freedom fighter, will commit suicide in front of you by consuming poison.” “I do not want to live if I hear that the boat (the Awami League’s electoral symbol) has lost and Khaleda Zia has come to power. There is no need for me to stay alive,” he said.
“If you do not vote for the boat, it will be a betrayal to the nation, a betrayal to the 3 million martyrs, a betrayal to the honour of 200,000 women. Hence, I urge you to vote for the boat in the upcoming election, giving Sheikh Hasina another chance so that war criminals, Al-Badr and Khaleda Zia cannot return to power,” he urged voters.
Nazim stressed that he does not have any assets or money in the bank and that he currently stands empty-handed among the people.
He emphasized the need to vote for the Awami League in the upcoming general election to preserve the continuity of development.
