From colony’s tea stall to online websites, gambling has been a trend recently. Moreover, gambling has taken over Bangladesh’s trending franchise BPL. On Tuesday a betting of 300 crores in a cricket match. The 3oo crores bet was occurred all over the world by the gamblers through online betting websites when Comilla Victorians beat Chittagong Vikings, and most of the bet was placed in a page named “betfair”. Last year 14 of these online pages were shut down by BTRC. Recently, several online pages are active by different names. This activity is so operating that the betting are placed on every ball played in a match. Websites work as an agent for the gamblers. The pages receive the betting amount from the gamblers and send it to the winner at the end of the match with profits, and charge 5-6% of the amount as an agent fee. Some of the pages don’t even charge any fees from the gamblers. A young man named Nasim from Badda is a victim of this gambling game. As his family complained he was murdered by a local gambler Ramjan for protesting against gambling on cricket matches. After this incident gambling on cricket matches has became a serious issue all over the country.
