Xasir Youssaf: Bangladesh has sought from the United Nations (UN) to ensure no one enjoys impunity despite full violation of international laws related to humanitarian and human rights issues while treating the Rohingya minority group.
Also, it said that ensurity should be established for confirming no one gets impunity for crimes against Rohingyas due to “absence of visible and effective steps” of the UNSC.The call was made by Masud Bin Momen, the Permanent Representative of the Bangladesh Mission to the UN during his speech on ‘Upholding International Law within the Context of the Maintenance of International Peace and Security.’
Citing reference to the horrible humanitarian crisis seen by UNSC team, Ambassador Momen made pledges to all to properly utilize the international laws in finding a sustainable solution to Rohingya crisis.
He hoped that the UNSC will consider the strong humanitarian appeal made by the forcibly displaced Rohingyas seeking justice and accountability, said the Bangladesh Mission yesterday.Bangladesh’s current Rohingya population is far more than the entire population of Bhutan. Currently some 1.2 million Rohingyas are being hosted in the country.
