Madness over ‘Avengers: Endgame’ tickets

DOT Desk: The most anticipated and hyped movie of the year, “Avengers: Endgame”, released at Star Cineplex in Dhaka yesterday, reports The Daily Dhaka Tribune.
Like the rest of the world, Bangladeshi fans also have been eagerly waiting for the film for a very long time, and subsequently, they have been trying to get tickets prior to the release, with the hope of watching the film on the opening day.
As the local fans tried to book tickets online, the Cineplex website crashed on Wednesday night for the heavy traffic. Website of Blockbuster Cinemas was also down due to heavy traffic. On the other hand, a video circulated on social media where fans were seen rushing to the entrance of Bashundhara City shopping complex in Panthapath, where the Star Cineplex is located on the eighth floor.
The film will also be released at the Cineplex branch in Shimanto Square, Dhanmondi.
A Dhaka Tribune team inspected the frenzy over tickets at both the venues. Upon our arrival at the Star Cineplex in Dhanmondi, we found long lines for tickets, with youngsters queuing up since early morning.
A college student named Shafayet told Dhaka Tribune: “I came with my friends to buy tickets and we are taking turns to stand in the line. I live in Mugdapara, so I came to Dhanmondi early in the morning to stand in the line for tickets; some of my friends are also trying to get tickets at the Bashundhara Star Cineplex, if we are lucky!
“My expectations are very high from this film, can’t really wait to watch the film for which I am going through all this hassle.”
Rifat, who is a HSC first year student at Imperial College, told us: “I came here at 8am in the morning. Tickets for tomorrow’s (April 26) shows are sold out, but I hope to tickets for Sunday’s show.”
The management at Dhanmondi Cineplex declined to comment, but they informed us that tickets for Friday and Saturday shows had already sold out. Now, the fans are waiting in the long lines for tickets of Sunday’s shows.
The Dhaka Tribune team also found out that tickets are being sold in the black market at higher prices.
