Laws related to the NID correction of dead persons are very complex. Election Commission is thinking about fixed ways for revising laws regarding this issue. For now EC meetings agreed to that, they will allow NID Correction of a dead voter, if the reason seems legitimate to the EC. EC Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed of such decision and added that, the information of the voters stay in the EC database even after their death.
This issue was brought up recently when, son of a dead voter wanted to update his father’s information about birthdate, from service book’s 30 October 1960 to 1 January 1963. His father was an office assistant at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
EC officials are trying to be as much cautious as possible about updating of NID information. Since, there are many syndicates working on illegally tweaking NID information for self-interests. Such as, increasing age to include name in FF list or decreasing age to increase job longevity. Also, changing other information to, get special government services and to illegally possess inheritance.
