Afsan Chowdhury, Researcher and Political Analyst : The structure of the country is helpful for creating an affluent section of the society. It does not mean that the other sections of the society are not being supported by the state. However, the rich get the benefit mostly. The problem of loan default originates from the banking system. Nepotism works greatly in this regard. Due to the same reason, the loans granted are not recovered from the loanees.
Maybe deliberately or unintentionally, finance minister illustrated such a section of the rich-majority state of late. Taking responsibility for my comments, I say there was no such government stronger than the sitting one in the country’s history. Even if such a powerful government wants, it is not possible to recover the defaulted loan from the loanees now. This is because the structure on which the banking system is established allows one to default loan. The system helps one do so after he or she is sanctioned a loan contacting a bank or non-banking financial institution.
Loan defaulters are the strongest section of the society. Nobody can stand against it, not even the government, because the latter has been allowing the evil practice to prevail. Not only this government, the stakeholders and people related to the banks ever since the inception of private banks knew that such a situation could arise.
