According to the recent Global index by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Dhaka is now the 2nd least Liveable city of the world. And this again gives us an opportunity to Laugh louder and blame against the system, Government Event it makes possible to create satire about the city . But who is responsible for the worst living conditions at Dhaka? Is it only the Government or the City Corporation. We, the citizen never want to blame ourself and we often forget to remember that we are also a part of the system or the Governmental process.
We have an unlimited number of complain against the city but we ourself did not put the dust in proper place this morning. Many of us did not switch off the electricity and gas yesterday night .But we love to claim and to be angry.
We claim but don’t want to maintain the system.
Dhaka is now roughly the city of 18 million people and the number is increasing in every day. The density of the city is unbelievable. Average density of the city is around 45000 per square kilometer.
The EIU index identified the problems for a citizen of Dhaka. The Unavailability Adequate infrastructure of Dhaka is responsible for the poorest condition . The organization surveyed and scored 140 cities under five categories including healthcare, infrastructure, culture and environment, stability and education. And Dhaka scored below the average in all categories.
But what should we do right now to save the city. Apart from the index Dhaka is obviously the most lively city of the world. The city never sleeps or takes rest for a single moment. It’s a very colorful city as well who has a long cultural history. People of the city celebrated colorful festival throughout the year. It’s a city of religious harmony where we can hear the sound of azan and puja at the same time in Evening period.

The Government and the residents of Dhaka need to work together to save Dhaka . Actually, we totally failed to manage the population system of the city even the infrastructure is not environment friendly at all. A proper planning of infrastructure, especially in transport system is very indeed for the city and the citizen should play the major role for it.
Now we have to think deeply about the responsibility and duties of a citizen of 21th century. We can recall James Holston who thought the city has always been a site of violent social and cultural confrontation. Since the beginning of 18th century one of the basic indicators of modernity has been use to linked concepts of association –citizenship and cities. So if we want a reborn of the city the citizen should wake up right now.
The concept of satellite city can be applied in the context of Dhaka. A satellite city is basically a smaller metropolitan area located close to a bigger city. People living in satellite cities can commute to a large city for their work. So for There need a strong transport system between the two cities.
Dhaka is considered as the city of opportunities. Migration from rural areas to urban Dhaka is contributed a lot for the imbalance population growth of the city. A large number of people come here for jobs and earning purpose. So the Government should create similar opportunities in other towns of the country also. So the flow of population may be stopped.
