Even though rice import-tax had been withdrawn, it will take about 2 months before implementation. Meanwhile, importers have to pay 435-440 US Dollar LC price per ton rice. Then, current 10% tax in action, 1 taka C&F charge & transportation costs etc. All these keep piling up and increasing their break-even value. Rice importers are both upset and at dismal.
A whole-seller mentioned, government’s ‘Go Steady & Slow’ policies are greatly hurting all the development progresses. Slow implementation & timely-improper actions have compromised the reduction of rice market-price. Per kg rice of every kind still being sold at high rate. Though, it should have sunk right after the withdrawal announcement rice import-tax.
