Photo: yesterday’s Patrika Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) destroyed poppies grown on 5 acres of deep forest in Thanchi in Bandarban. This poppy field was destroyed in Kaika Khumi Para area of Tindu Union of the upazila yesterday.
According to BGB sources, yesterday at noon, the captain of Bolipara battalion of 38 BGB Lt. A team of 15 under the leadership of Colonel Khandakar Muhammad Sharif-ul-Alam raided Kaika Khumi Para area of Tindu Union. On sensing the presence of the BGB, the poppy farmers ran away. Meanwhile, 5 acres of hilly land where poppy cultivation is being found. Later it was destroyed in the presence of local dignitaries.
At the end of the campaign, the BGB Bolipara battalion captain Lt. Colonel Khandaker Muhammad Sharif-ul-Alam said that if poppy grown on 5 acres of land was processed, approximately 250 kg of opium would have been produced. The estimated value of which is about two crore rupees. All these poppies have been destroyed. Apart from this, intelligence monitoring has been increased to see if there are any poppies growing in the Gohin forest of the upazila.
