Hossen Sohel: Human hauliers, known as laguna, will not be allowed to ply on the streets of the capital, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said yesterday, Reports The Daily Star.
Asaduzzaman Mia said this while addressing a press conference at the DMP media centre in Minto Road. The press conference was organised to announce DMP’s month-long special traffic management initiative from today.
The DMP boss hoped that there will visible changes in the traffic sector following the month-long special traffic management initiative which will make city dwellers aware of the traffic rules.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to ensure strict enforcement of traffic rules on the road stretching from Gulistan Zero Point to Jahangir Gate on a month-long pilot basis, starting from tomorrow.
In a project titled “Model traffic system”, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), in association with city corporations, would try to bring the highest discipline to the seven-kilometre stretch of road.
DMP has designated 121 bus stoppages, apart from these spots no buses will be allowed to load and unload passengers and they have to keep their doors shut until arrival of the next bus stoppage.
He urged the city dwellers to use zebra crossings, footbridges and underpasses while crossing the roads.
He called on the bus owners not appoint drivers on contract basis otherwise the route permits of the buses will be revoked.
