Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused Khaleda Zia of having turned Bangladesh into a terrorist nation during her regime. She made such comments during a discussion meeting organized to celebrate the National Children’s Day and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birthday on Thursday, March 17. The meeting took place at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

PM Sheikh Hasina stated, “After coming to power, BNP had ruined all the efforts we had made during our regime to diminish poverty. They even stole money from the old-age allowance and widow allowance that we had implemented in the first place. In this way, they created such chaos in this country that cannot be described in words. The country became place where the people’s dreams do not come true. Bangla Bhai, terrorism became armed guards for the then government in broad daylight.”

Reminiscing about her father she said, “The Father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had worked all his life to free the Bengali people from oppression and injustice. Whenever I start to work on something, I find that he had worked on it first. He left no task untouched.”

On the topic of Pakistan she said, “Pakistan never approved of Bangladeshi leaders. They only wanted subordinates that would be their lackeys.”

While talking about Independence and its aftermath, she opined, “The six-points were the key to independence. That is why the Pakistanis wanted to stop it by any means possible. Therefore they trapped Bangabandhu in Agartala Conspiracy Case. However, the people of this country were still united under his leadership.”

When the subject of Bangabandhu’s death arose, she stated, “After the murder of Bangabandhu, Ziaur Rahman gave his murderers jobs in different foreign embassies. They had no qualifications except that they had murdered the Father of this nation. Ziaur Rahman’s wife had made his killers, Colonel Faruk and Colonel Rashid leaders of BNP during the election of ’96, the election with no voters.”
