Job interviews are like the most harrowing experience ever. From the spine-tingling thoughts of who you will be facing to what questions you need to be prepared for- it’s an experience like no other. One thing you might overlook or look too much into is your interview wardrobe. Figuring out what to wear is an essential part of your presentation as a potential employee. Trust me, it can MAKE or BREAK you impression. So here are a couple of tips to follow, when picking out the correct attire for the job.
1: Remember its better to be a bit over dressed than underdressed. Don’t show up wearing slacks and a t-shirt. That’s just unprofessional and downside rude. Instead try to wear darker formal colors. A simple shirt with dress pants or a Salwar Kameez goes a long way.
2: Dress with the company in mind. Think about who you’re going to be working for and dress accordingly. There might not be a big need to wear a formal suit for a job interview as a server at Pizza Hut!
3. Please oh please, wear clothes that fit. Don’t just dive into your closet or your parents for that matter, to try to find the right clothes. Be prepared for your interview in advance.
4. Wear a blazer when in doubt. If you have a stain or you shirt isn’t as formal, wear a light weight blazer in a deeper shade or even beige. It will look smart as well as savvy, which is what you’re going for.
5. Dress conservatively. This is a job interview not a night club, so dress according to the standard. Mini skirt, tight fits, chest exposure and really high heels should not be present in the same room as you!
6. And Finally! Keep your cologne or perfume to a minimum. A soft mellow, almost fresh tone is much appreciated to a musky one. Interviews are more often than not held in a small space, an overpowering perfume could become cloying, giving off a bad impression.
