Keeping in mind the motto “Plant trees and build a healthy generation country”, the tree planting campaign and tree fair started in Bandarban from 27th July and will continue till 31st July.
On the occasion of tree planting campaign and tree fair organized by the district administration and forest department, the tree fair will continue from 27th July till 9 pm every day at the premises of the district commissioner and the closing ceremony will be held on 31st July after various week long events.
Former Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh MP, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, who was present as the chief guest in the program, said – Compared to the population, our country is very small. This small country is full of natural beauty and resources. The soil of this country is very fertile. A seed or a seedling planted in a land of fertile soil can grow into a huge tree. Still, why we have a shortage of plants and greenery is something to ponder. Just as food is needed to sustain life, oxygen is also needed. 70% of oxygen comes from plants. Therefore, trees are our best friend, an invaluable resource of nature and a shield for the environment. Hummingbird pests will decrease if there are no plants. It affects human life and agriculture. Trees are the most important component of our ecosystem and one of the forest resources. We take leaves, fruits and seeds of trees as food. Fibers are extracted from trees to make our products. Our houses and furniture are made with the edge wood from the tree. Our most essential writing materials are paper and pencil. Students distributed saplings of various trees free of charge. Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin, Bandarban presided over. Honorable guests – Superintendent of Police Saikat Shaheen, Divisional Forest Officer Rahman Bandarban, Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Raihan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Umm Kulsoom, Mayor Md. Samchul Islam Municipal Bandarban, along with various senior officials were present.
