In Gobindaganj of Gaibandha, a housewife named Chakina Begum (35) was tied to an electric pole and her hair was chopped off by her opponents on the false allegation of spending the night with a stranger. His neighboring opponents failed in the plot to expel him from the house. In this incident, the housewife filed a complaint at the police station and the police arrested 3 people.
The arrested are Shahjahan Ali (48) of Pachanaria Dakshinpara village of Rakhalburuj union of the upazila, Chameli Begum (40) wife of Alim Uddin of the same village and Abdul Chattar (55).
According to the statement filed with the police station, Chakina Begum (35), a housewife of Rakhal Buruj Pacharia Dakshinpara village of Rakhalburuj union of the upazila lived in Dhaka with her speech-impaired husband Ripu Mia. Due to illness, they came to the village house with their families for 3 weeks. His opponents had been plotting for a long time to drive him out of the house due to family reasons. In continuation of this last Sunday (May 12) night, Monarul Islam, the son of deceased Jamal Uddin, son of ex-husband of the same village, sneaked into the house and hid under the bed. After that, when Chakina Begum entered the house, Monarul molested her. The opponents tied Chakhina Begum to an electricity pole, beat her, injured her and cut off her hair, accusing her of spending the night with a foreigner.
Chakina Begum alleged that seven people including Shahjahan Ali, Chameli Begum, Abdul Chattar, Harun Mia, Ainul Islam and Delbar Rahman dragged her out of the house with ‘false allegations’. Later, both hands were tied upside down to an electric pole near the house and beaten. They also cut the hair of the head. According to the police, when the matter was called to the emergency service 999 at around 2 o’clock on Sunday night, the police rescued the victim from the scene tied to an electric pole. Later he got treatment at Upazila Health Complex and returned home. The police filed a complaint accusing the seven people in this incident and arrested 3 people. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindganj Police Station Shamsul Alam Shah said that the three accused arrested in this incident have been sent to the district jail through the court. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused.
