Implementing Sex Education
Thiri Hthan
Sexuality is an integral part of each person’s identity. Learning about our sexuality and achieving sexual health and well being are lifelong processes that begin at birth and continue throughout our lives.
Few days back, I saw a video on Facebook which was very shocking for everyone who saw it. Some made jokes and some got angry. The video was deleted just after an hour it was uploaded. The video was about four children “HAVING SEX” on a rooftop of a slum, pretty shocking huh? It was more blood boiling when I heard the cameraman who was taking the video was laughing at them. Was it very funny? Watching kids having sex and laughing at them is not a funny thing at all. It’s a big threat to our country. These kids only think it’s a play. Things might turn out to be much worse. I beg the new generation parents to teach your kids about physical relationships. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Its best to start talking to your children about sexuality in early childhood- but it’s never too late. Sex education is a must. Talking to children about sex might make me uncomfortable at first, but it gets easier with time and patience. The kids in the video were so young and they did not even know what they were doing. Bangladesh contain 5 million of slum dwellers. Dwellers, who struggleto survive due to poverty in this beautiful world. Slum children are brought up with less care and love. Their parents are often at work or on roads begging, leaving their children behind athome for the entire day. Many of them do not even go to school. In the end they start to beg on the streets for a few pennies or search for work to do. I believe that parents and guardians should be the primary educators of their children. As with other complex issuesmany parents may need support, resources and expertise from schools and other organizations. If it continues like this, we cannot make Bangladesh digital, EVER!! Rich or poor, does not matter. We all have a little idea what sex is, right? Even if you are the busiest parent in the world, please make time to educate your children about sex, because if we won’t then who will?
