Rasheda K Chowdhury, Former Caretaker Government Adviser: The quota system was adopted keeping a special situation in mind. For instance, the freedom fighters’ quota has been introduced for the war heroes. And, the quota system was revoked over a special situation. Meanwhile, a court order also says that the children of freedom fighters will be entitled to the quota facility.
If the matter was considered, the rest quota system could have been reformed upon taking cognizance them. After the prime minister declared the cancellation of the quota system, I was eagerly waiting for the next steps. Meanwhile, a committee has been formed in this regard. If the committee works fairly considering the socio-economic situation, the problem will be resolved. So many years have passed by ever since the Liberation War. We managed to help under-privileged section of the society advance in a major achievement for Bangladesh.
The quota system reformation is so necessary since the process cannot go on for good and the practice is not applicable anywhere else. The quota system can be reformed considering the demand of the era and the society. The policymakers will take decision taking into cognizance everything. The role of the committee is so vital in this case. It will surely play its role keeping ahead the current socio-economic situation and the hope of the new generation.
