DOT Desk: Ruling Awami League mayoral candidate Azmat Ullah Khan today said he has accepted the results of the Gazipur City Corporation polls, which saw independent candidate Zaida Khatun elected mayor, reports The Daily Star.
“There were some problems in EVMs and many people could not cast their votes. However, I accept the results and I am congratulating the winner,” he said while taking to reporters yesterday, hours after the returning officer announced the polls results.
Zaida, mother of suspended mayor Zahangir Alam, defeated Azmat Ullah by a margin of 16,197 votes in yesterday’s polls.
“I accepted the polls results. If the polls results would go against anyone else, would they have accepted it? Now, they will say election was fair,” he said.
