Over 70% of our body is made of water and the effects of dehydration may be life-threatening. The former “8-by-8” rule of 64 ounces per day is no longer a rule of the thumb. It is essential to up your water intake, especially in the heat scorching us these days. There are many safe and effective ways to increase your water intake for athletic, dietary or health purposes.
1.Carry a water bottle with you at all times. If you have your own supply of water on hand, it is a no brainer that you will drink more water.
2.Start developing reminders. We all have cell phones. Set up reminders that tell you to drink some water every hour. That way, you will always stay hydrated.
3.Add a little flavor to your water. You could do this by adding lemon, lime, mint leaves, cucumber slices or berries. Unsweetened tea is a good option as well. Adding a slight flavor to perk up water may ease the task of drinking more water every day.
4.Replace at least one daily drink with water. Consider replacing your second cup of latte with two glasses of water. Start alternating between alcoholic drinks and water at parties.
5.Adopt the habit of downing a glass of water before and after your meals.
6.Start playing water-based games. For example, opt for water pong instead of beer pong. Commit to playing it once a week and you will considerably up your water intake!
