Dhaka Metropolitan Police had recently launched a campaign to collect the personal information of Dhaka city dwellers to create a citizen database. As a part of that campaign, Banani Police Station has taken an initiative to collect the information of slum-dwellers. Besides taking their personal information, the officers have taken this chance to create a bond of trust between them and the slum-dwelling population.
They have conducted three meetings with the slum-dwellers of Sat Tala Slum. In these meetings, the petrol officer of Banani Police, Salekuzzaman Khan and two sub-inspectors, Madhu and Rakib explained the importance of filling up the form provided by the police in easy language. The police officers requested the slum-dwellers to let them know of any crimes taking place around them.
Petrol officer Salekuzzaman told the Daily Our Time, “I am enjoying myself quite a lot. I have never had the chance to work with the people so closely before. I believe this campaign will be successful.”
He also talked to the slum-dwellers about beat policing. SI Rakib took this opportunity to raise awareness against drug dealers as well.
