Abrar Hussain: In a bid to ease stress on the students, the government yesterday reduced the number of subjects in Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations by 3 and the scores by 200, reports BDnews24.
Duly, there will now be no second paper in English or Bangla, nor an optional subject in the exams, meaning that the number of subjects will fall to only seven, down from the existing 10.
Secondary and Higher Secondary Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain told reporters that this decision was taken to reduce the burden on students.
The JSC examination, as per the fresh move, will be held in 650 scores instead of the existing 850, while for JDC it will be 850 instead of the existing 1,050.
Sohrab said the syllabus of English and Bangla have been changed now that the second papers have been removed, adding that students who are taking the exams this year would not face any problem due to the changes brought five months into the academic calendar.
Earlier, on May 20, a proposal has been placed such that the total number of subjects will be seven and the total marks 650.
The proposal was tabled at a meeting between the education ministry and the inter-board coordination sub-committee, comprising chairmen of all educational boards, at the Secretariat.
