DOT Desk: [2] Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the government is going to reopen its offices to a limited extent considering the suffering of people amid the coronavirus pandemic. The premier made the statement while addressing a videoconference with public representatives and officials of eight districts in Rangpur division on the present Covid-19 situation in the country on today morning.The videoconference was aired live on state and private television channels from the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka, reports Dhaka Tribune.
[3] Sheikh Hasina said: “We are opening our government offices and courts in limited form to avoid suffering of people.”She said a good number of instructions in this regard are coming soon. On March 23, the government declared a nationwide 10-day holiday from March 26 to April 4 shutting down public and private offices except essential and healthcare facilities, to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.
[4] The shutdown was extended for multiple times till May 5 while the government is now thinking of extending it until May 15. Covid-19, a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, has claimed 177 lives and infected 9,455 people in Bangladesh as of yesterday.
