Passengers, drivers and local traders are suffering due to severe traffic jams on Dhaka-Rangpur highway and Gobindganj-Dinajpur-regional highway in Gobindaganj of Gaibandhar.
CNG, rickshaws and autorickshaws are parked on the sides of these two highways passing through the city, causing traffic congestion. Pedestrians, students and vehicle passengers are suffering due to this.
Gobindaganj is particularly known as the gateway to the 8 districts of the northern region as Dhaka-Rangpur highway and Gobindaganj-Dinajpur-Regional highway pass through Gobindaganj town.
All types of vehicles from Rangpur, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, Nilphamari, Lalmanir Hat, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts in the north ply to various places including the capital Dhaka. Apart from this, various types of light and heavy vehicles carrying cargo from Madhyapara, Barapukuria Coal Mine and Hili, Burimari, Sonahat, Banglabandha land ports pass through Gobindganj city. But CNG, battery-powered autorickshaws and rickshaws are parked haphazardly in urban areas, occupying most of the highways, so traffic jams have become a routine matter.
Due to which all vehicles including long distance and emergency service vehicles have to be stuck in traffic for a long time. Pedestrians, students and vehicle passengers are also suffering. Businessmen of Gobindaganj city complain that some drivers of CNG and battery-powered autorickshaws stop on the side of the highway to pick up passengers and wait for passengers, preventing other vehicles from plying at normal speed.
Due to which the traffic jams in urban areas. Only a few days ago, due to traffic jams, lives were being lost in haste.
Trader Solaiman Ali, Pawarti Kumar, said that due to traffic jams, sales are decreasing as buyers cannot cross the common road. Again the honking of vehicles makes it difficult to stay in the shop.
Mahbubar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station, said, We are working on the highway.
Thats why small and big ditches are filled all over the city. Apart from this, the city highway section from Thana Charmatha to Upazila road is narrowed. The problem will be overcome when the road reform is completed.
