The seventh edition of Ganga-Jamuna Theatre and Cultural Festival will begin today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The eleven-day festival, organised by Ganga-Jamuna Sangskritik Parshad, will feature plays and cultural performances by 30 local and Indian theatre troupes and 63 cultural organisations at four different venues of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. ‘We have invited 26 local and four Indian theatre troupes to participate in the festival. Besides, 2,000 artistes from 63 cultural organisations will entertain the audience with their performances at the event’, said Ghulam Quddus, convener of the festival and president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, at a press conference held at the seminar room of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
The press conference was also attended by member secretary of the festival Akteruzzaman, Bangladesh Path Natok Parishad president Mannan Hira and Bangladesh Ganosangeet Samannay Parishad president Fakir Alamgir.
Thespian Mamunur Rashid and Indian theatre artiste Bibhas Chakrabarty will jointly inaugurate the festival at National Theatre Hall in presence of cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor, thespian Ataur Rahman, theatre activist Nasiruddin Yousuff, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy director general Liaquat Ali Lucky and others.
In the next ten days of the festival, local theatre troupes Aranyak Natyadal, Theatre, Prachyanaut, Prangonemor, Dhaka Padatik, Sangskar Natyadal, Loko Natyadal (Banani), Jagarani Theatre, Dhaka Theatre, Shabdo Natyacharcha Kendra, Natyajoddha, Nagarik Natyangan Bangladesh, Bibartan, Maitri Theatre, Desh Natok and others will stage their plays at the three theatre halls of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
