DOT Desk: The Election Commission is likely to hold a fresh election in Gaibandha-5 constituency by January 15, reports The Daily Star.
The EC stopped the polls in the constituency on October 12 following electoral anomalies.
“We will try to hold the Gaibandha-5 by-polls by January 15… We will soon hold a meeting and finalise the date,” Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana told reporters at the commission’s office in Dhaka’s Agargaon yesterday. The 125 presiding officers, who were found negligent in performing duties during the October 12 by-polls, will not be allowed to discharge duties in the fresh polls, she said.
Earlier, the EC recommended taking departmental action against the 125 presiding officers.
