Florence and the Machine is an indie rock band that started out in London in 2007 that consists of Florence Welch- the lead singer, Isabella “Machine” Summers, and a collaboration of other talented artists. However, they are not your every day Arctic Monkeys type indie rock band. Their music also has an element of folk and fusion in them, with instruments like bass drums and the harp playing in the background. Most of their songs are written by the Florence Welch herself. The lyrics often play with metaphors and they undoubtedly sound like fine literature. I have never heard lyrics that sound like poetry written by a lyrical genius. The band’s songs are the perfect blend of out-of-the-world-amazing instrumentals and Florence’s ethereal voice. The songs are often very dark or angry but are sang with a rather peaceful and serene tone. While you cannot help but get a bit teary-eyed listening to some of the songs that are filled with raw emotions, there are other songs that get you all pumped up and inspired.
