Fix level of preservative use in food items: JS body

Sayeed Muhammad: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Ministry yesterday recommended that the government fix the use level of preservatives in different food items for the sake of public health. It also asked the Science and Technology Ministry to sit with the ministries concerned to fix the level of preservative tolerable for human body, reports UNB.
The Parliamentary watchdog came up with the suggestion at its 18th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its Chairman Dr AFM Ruhal Haque in the chair.

At the meeting, the committee was told that Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) was formed to set up and run the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and other nuclear power plants.

An independent salary scale has been formulated for the NPCBL, for which 83 engineers, scientific officers or equivalent officials have been recruited as yet. A process is underway to recruit 382 officials for training in 2019.

The committee suggested the Science and Technology Ministry to caerry out campaign for making people aware about nuclear medicine treatment services provided by the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (NINMAS) and Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS).

It also recommended increasing the number of fellowships under Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship Trust.

Committee members Mohammed Amanullah, Ayeen Uddin and Nurul Islam Milon, the Science and Technology Secretary, the Chairman of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), and the Director General of Science and Technology Museum were present.
