Maj Gen (Retd) Abdur Rashid, security and international affairs analyst  : Bangladesh is wishing very reasonably not to deepen the Rohingya crisis further. The South Asian countries are achieving growths consistently and very rapidly due to a peaceful social order.
To arrest the fast growths, a conflicting situation has to be spread and many will give a try to do so.
The Rohingya problem has to be resolved keeping in view the geo-politics at work. Bangaldesh is not looking for any impulsive solution. The country wants an amicable solution to the Rohingya crisis. Scope for amicable solution has to be explored and the displaced Myanmar nationals are to repatriated soon.
Due to their geo-political interests, some countries of this region and others are not in favour of taking a strong stand against Myanmar, hence the crisis has deepened.
China is threatening to exercise its “power of veto” at the United Nations Security Council and the country is using the power at times.
The Security Council is the platform where the longstanding crisis can be resolved internationally within the present structure.
The Rohingya crisis has been raised and discussed at all levels including the UN Security Council. Now the Security Council is the sole agency empowered with imposing any solution and resorting to the use of force and punitive actions, if need be.
Of late, the UN Secretary General has paid a visit to Bangladesh. He has also seen for himself the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar. The visit of the UN Secretary General has created an intense pressure on Myanmar for resolving the protracted crisis. Now it remains to be seen as to how long Myanmar could deal with the cumulative pressure.
Countries including China-Russia and India which backed Myanmar are now taking a back seat gradually.
Lately Bangladesh Foreign Minister has visited China and called on Chinese Foreign Minister there. The Chinese Foreign Minister assured the Bangladesh Foreign Minister of repatriating the displaced Myanmar nationals. This is just another move outside the United Nations.
The assurance of repatriation has come from a quarter where Myanmar gathers its strength. Now it seems that China, to some extent, is getting alienated from the world.
