Resumes are not just about your skills and experience. You also need to capture the essence of the job and how it relates to an impact on the company.
Every job in an organization exists for a reason. For best results you have to convey to the hiring manager that you understand the essence of your function.
There’s a difference between performing the functions of your job and understanding the big picture of how your job adds value. When you understand your job on a deeper level you can contribute more to the organization because you are thinking outside the narrow fulfillment of duties.
This approach doesn’t apply to all items on a resume, but if you find that a bullet is lacking substance you can incorporate essence. For instance
Cleaned toilets vs
Cleaned toilets to combat infection among school children
Administered employee schedules vs. Administered employees schedules, balancing store coverage with employee requests
They may be dulled down examples but you get the idea. When things like this are sprinkled through out your resume it will make you stand out from the boring experience lists.
These are the things that a resume writer like myself is thinking about when writing resumes.
