The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has given a go-ahead to a Tk 3,885.72 crore project to update Dhaka (Kanchpur)-Sylhet-Tamabil highway into a four-lane one. The project is also designed to make separate service lanes on both sides of the road, reports Banglanews24.com. The approval came from the 11th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year held at the NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair yesterday.
After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told reporters that 21 projects were approved during the meeting involving an overall estimated cost of Taka 19,778.73 crore.
The ECNEC then also approved a project to procure some 35 dredgers spending Tk 4,489.03 crore to keep up navigability in 100 major rivers across the country.
“Of the total project cost, Taka 17,316.93 crore will come from the Government of Bangladesh portion, Taka 233.93 crore from the organization’s own fund while the rest of Taka 2,227.87 crore from project assistance,” he said.
Of the 21 approved projects, two are revised ones. The revised projects are ‘Establishment of Three Handloom Services Centres in Different Loom Incentive Areas (2nd revised) Project involving Tk 88.80 crore and Greater Mymensingh Rural Infrastructural Development (2nd revised) Project involving Tk 1,867 crore.
