Stating that their party does not have any chairman candidate in 114 Union Parishads (UPs), BNP on Friday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) is making its all efforts to ensure the victory of ruling party candidates.
“The Election Commission is trying its best to have the chairman posts for the ruling party candidates in the Union Parishad polls as a gift in return of their appointments as it did in the previous polls,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he also observed that the EC is spreading perfume on the dead body of democracy after its annihilation by the ‘vote-less’ government to prevent the bad odour by arranging farcical polls.
The BNP leader said their party has no chairman candidates in 114 UPs as the election officers cancelled the nominations of many of them over trivial matters while the others could not submit their nominations due to obstruction and threat by the ruling party men.
“The Election Commission has become desperate to ensure the victory of the ruling party candidates which is unprecedented in the country’s history,” Rizvi said.
He alleged that the current subservient Election Commission has completely ruined the country’s election system.
He said they came to know that the Commission is planning to reduce the number of law enforcers at every centre during the voting for creating a scope for the ruling party to grab the chairman posts.
