Observer BD: The online application process for admission into first year honours courses at Dhaka University (DU) under 2018-2019 academic session has begun on Tuesday and will continue till August 26. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman formally inaugurated the online admission process at a function at central admission office of the university in the afternoon. The admission test for DU’s ‘Ka’ unit will be held on September 28, while admission test for ‘Kha’ unit will be on September 21, ‘Ga’ unit on September 14, ‘Gha’ unit on October 12, ‘Cha’ unit (general knowledge) on September 15 and ‘Cha’ unit (drawing) on September 22. Students who will be eligible for the examination will have to pay Tk 350 (including bank and IT charge) for each unit through Sonali, Agrani, Janata or Rupali banks. Students can download their admit cards of ‘Ga’ and ‘Cha’ units from September 5 till exams date 9:00am while in ‘Ka’, ‘Kha’ and ‘Gha’ admit cards could be downloaded from 10 September till 9:00am of exam date.

This year, a total of 7,128 seats, more 20 than last year, are available where 1,750 for Ka (Science) unit, 2,378 for Kha (Arts) unit, 1,250 for Ga (Business) unit, 1,615 for ‘Gha (combined) unit and 135 for Fine Arts faculty.

Citing qualifications to apply for admission are same like the previous year, university VC Prof Md. Akhtaruzzaman said, “No electronic devices including calculator, Mobile Phone, electronic Watch will be allowed into the exam halls.”

“Like previous year, metal detectors would be set up at every entrance of the exam halls to avert any ‘digital forgery’ and Mobile Court will do their duty during exams,” he added.

Threatening against any digital forgeries, he said, “If any students takes ‘unfair means’ during exams, must be brought under tough law,” adding that detectives will do their work strictly this year.

Among others, Pro-vice Chancellor (education) Prof Nasreen Ahmad, Pro-vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad, Convener of Online Admission Committee Prof Hasibur Rashid, deans of various faculties and institutions were present at the function.
