At this moment app showed 81 deaths and 2,794 confirmed cases. Apart from China and the US, the virus has also been diagnosed in several other countries, including Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, Macau, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, France, South Korea, Vietnam, and Nepal.
Even as the surveillance for the virus intensifies at international airports across the globe, the city of Wuhan – which is home to more than 9 million people – has been put under a virtual lockdown as a precautionary measure. According to Chinese officials, almost 2,700 patients are under observation for the coronavirus. This figure is in addition to the confirmed cases – indicating the skyrocketing rate of the spread of infection in the country.
