Desk Report: The capital wears a deserted look as majority of the city dwellers are yet to return from their village homes after Eid-ul-Azha festival, reports Daily Sun.
Roads, lanes and by-lanes, which used to remain infested with vehicles and commuters in the city before Eid, are now deserted.
Some people, who could not go to their village homes due to shortage of bus and train tickets before Eid, are now going home to meet their parents and relatives.
As schools, colleges and universities are now closed on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha, majority of the students and teachers are yet to return to the capital.
Many shops, motor vehicle workshops and other business houses remained closed as staffs are enjoying holidays.
City streets in Mirpur, Pallabi, Shyamoli, Asad Gate, Banani, Karwan Bazar, Shahbagh, Azimpur, Paltan, Motijheel, Gulistan, Rampura, Badda, Gulshan, Kuril and Uttara saw movement of a small number of vehicles amid thin presence of commuters.
Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals, Kamalapur railway station and Sadarghat launch terminal also looked deserted for lack of passengers.
Unlike other times, there is no traffic jam in the capital now. A few public vehicles are seen plying the roads with a handful of passengers on board.
