Engr. Mashiur Rahman, Managing Director, TGTDCL: The capacity constraint of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) is not responsible for the ongoing gas crisis. Though no expansion of network is done, maintenance and upgrading of pipelines and network is ongoing. But failure in supplying gas as per demand is the main reason for alarmingly depleting network pressure. The city suburbs and outskirts are suffering from chronic gas crisis.
Addressing the question of illegal connections, Engr Rahman admitted that illegal connections grew into a major problem in the Titas Franchise Areas (TFAs). But through a crash program, they managed to disconnect almost 85% of illegal connections. We expect removing all illegal connections within the next few months.
The domestic sector gas crisis has affected all the end-users. Supply of RLNG from FSRU soon will start improving the supply situation. But we have to wait till the end of the year for witnessing major improvement.
