Bangladesh Road Transportation Commission (BRTC) record shows, public bus service bought 1538 buses in past 7 years. But, only 991 are running. Rest, hundreds of crores taka worth 545 buses are parked in the depo and out of condition due to the authority’s utter negligence. Now again, the government is planning on buying more buses, informs BRTC. Many are finding this outrageous to buy new buses without repairing the old ones. The government will be adding 4000 new buses on the bus routes, in order to reduce the transportation crisis. The decision will be taken after a meeting with the Mayor, said Tranporation & Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader on 20th April. But, BRTC confirmed the proposal is for 1200 buses. There already 600 buses at the pipe line of the India Line of Credit. BRTC claiming of not having any say in these buying deals. Government buys buses and BRTC only manage the public transportation service, said BRTC Chairman Mizanur Rahman. He added that, they sent request letter for 50 crores taka to repair the old buses. They can only repair these, if the government pays them to do so. He also claims that, all their buses run regularly. If any complain about irregularity is proven, they will take sufficient actions against the responsible manager.
