Prof Serajul Islam Chowdhury, Educationist

Quota’ for public service recruitments was a momentary matter. No debate was supposed to be raised over the issue. It should have been resolved by now. There is a debate over the quota reserved for the freedom fighters. But there is no complexity here. I am not in favour of quota system since it is not logical at all.
But quota can be reserved for the disabled and ethnic minority groups. The matter can be viewed from different perspectives in all other respects. Competition is the essence of education. None should be given any special privilege here. We should examine the matter considering our socio-economic condition. We should consider everything keeping the reality in view. We should keep in mind that there is no alternative to merit for surviving in the highly competitive world.
