The Kaptai 7.4 Megawatts Solar Power Plant deal has been signed and finalized on yesterday. Chinese ZTE Corporation is handling the project and Asian Development Bank is backing this 77 crores taka project. Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) wants to cover 10% of national electricity by solar-power within next 20 years. They plan to take a grand project for establishing a Solar Park. BPDB secretary Masuduzzaman & ZTE Corporation Director Lee Wee signed the contracts personally. Use of clean energy needs to be increased as much as possible, urged State Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid. Also, he warned the responsible authorities to be very careful and control the carbon emission from coal plants. Chinese contractor ZTE promises to start the structural work from August and start contributing to the grid within a year. Production cost will be 5.48 taka for each kilo-watts of electricity. The proposed project estimated to last for 25 years.
