DOT Desk: Police and Awami League activists clashed with protesting students in Dhaka’s Uttara area, with the police resorting to sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the protesters, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The incident occurred in front of Milestone College in Uttara Sector 11 on Friday afternoon during a mass rally called under the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement banner.
So far, only one person, identified as Tamim, has been reported injured. He was taken to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital from Lab Aid in Uttara Sector 6. The source of the shooting remains unclear. Police and Awami League supporters had positioned themselves in front of Zamzam Tower in Sector 11, while students gathered in front of Milestone College.
After 4:15pm, Awami League supporters chased the students toward Milestone College, leading to a clash. During this confrontation, the police used sound grenades and tear gas to disperse the students, who eventually scattered.
Currently, Awami League activists and police are stationed on the road in front of Zamzam Tower, while the students are dispersed across different roads in the sector.
