Whatsapp is one of the most famous media platforms; including its parent company Facebook which was able to escape the observation of Chinese officials. Their radar is firmly looking at it. Many Whatsapp users reported a problem that they were unable to send image, video and other documents on Tuesday. On Wednesday, cyber experts said that there were more breakdowns on the app.
Charlie Smith said that, it is not totally blocked but inaccessible and there is a group that monitors internet censorship in China. He added to CNNMoney that, “I have also conducted speed tests from China and these sites are not reachable.” Nadim Kobeissi (an applied cryptographer at Paris-based startup Symbolic Software) said that, without text messages it is unable to send anything via Chinese server. He also said, in the same way they block the server which exchange files, photo and videos like Facebook and BBC. The Chinese government did not respond to this request. In June, a new cyber security law took effect to make it harder for foreign films to operate in China.
