Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has submitted a memorandum to Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman demanding the Ducsu polls be postponed by at least three months, reports Dhaka Tribune.
The four-point memorandum was submitted yesterday morning by Chhatra Dal representatives.
They, in their memorandum, claimed that it is necessary to delay the polls to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable Ducsu election; held for the first time in 29 years.
According to them, the student body, different student wings, and candidates are yet to have a pro-election environment to freely exercise their rights.
The other three demands include: transferring voting centers from student halls to academic buildings of the university; eliminating the age cap for candidates to participate in the polls, both as a candidate and a voter; and ensuring a level playing and harassment-free election environment for all the student organizations; so that they can campaign worry-free and the student body can vote for their desired candidate without external pressure.
